What we learnt about Far Harbor in April

April being the last month before the release of Fallout 4s most anticipated DLC so far, Far Harbor. A lot of new updates alluding to features of the DLC were added, here are the things we learnt about Far Harbor in April.

The Children of Atom may be a joinable faction:

A update to the PC version of the game added 12 new face paints for the player character, these face paints all having names that tie into the Children of Atom, although they are untextured, a video from a YouTuber  shows all 12 of the face paints in game, could these potentially mean that the Children of Atom is a joinable faction? We believe so. An official extract from Bethesda says that the DLC is heavily focused on the Children of Atom and their involvement on the island of Far Harbor:

A new case from Valentine’s Detective Agency leads you on a search for a young woman and a secret colony of synths. Travel off the coast of Maine to the mysterious island of Far Harbor, where higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world. Navigate through the growing conflict between the synths, the Children of Atom, and the local townspeople. Will you work towards bringing peace to Far Harbor, and at what cost? Far Harbor features the largest landmass for an add-on that we’ve ever created, filled with new faction quests, settlements, lethal creatures and dungeons. Become more powerful with new, higher-level armor and weapons. The choices are all yours.

During a recent post, we detailed how a forum member had found information about the newest update for Far Harbor in the 1.5 updates files through Data Mining, new items such as elevators and racks are meant to be released in Far Harbor (To read more about the update, check out the post here)

Fallout 4 The Creation Kit Mod Program Released For PC

After a period of beta testing the creation kit, Bethesda has released it to the public, the creation kit allows modders to use the same toolsuite that Bethesda uses to develop the game, thus allowing them to also create new weapons, armors and more. The release of the creation kit (or the equivalent e.g G.E.C.K) marks the start of exciting mods for the game, whilst before modders were limited to only retexturing the games clothing, weapons with third party tools, with the creation kit they are able to create quest mods, include more animations and more content without the consequences of using any third party tools.

In the video above, Fallout 4 developer Todd Howard is quoted as saying “The life of Fallout 4 in your hands is going to take us all places none of us anticipated” this shows that the support for the modding community is huge from Bethesda (I mean how many developers release a full toolsuite that they use to develop a game?

In their official blog post Bethesda states that their goal for the creation kit was to allow Fallout 4 modding to be ‘easier and more accessible than ever before.  Fallout 4 players are able to install new mods from inside the game, taking the away the need to use a website such as nexusmods.com. The users are able to upload their mods to Bethesda.net and install them from inside their game.

Mods are officially available for PC users, with Xbox One users being able to access it sometime during May, an PS4 users being able to access them during June.
